AppCleaner — Cleans definitions and caches when deleting Apps — Pauses iTunes or Spotify when you start a video on YouTube or somewhere else. Saying iTunes as the best media manager is controversial to say the least:P. I personally love and it works flawlessly for me. I have a ton of music and other content and hasn't failed/crashed on me yet. It makes me wonder how I am apparently a special unicorn among a small group given all that shit iTunes gets in being bloated, slow and should be broken up. Echoing Parallels. I tried Virtualbox for some time but then I got Parallels and it was literally night and day. Being able to give more that 256 MB of VRAM in Parallels is reason enough to switch. Direct3D seems to work better as well. AppCleaner is simple and yet so integral to the OS. The Unarchiver is the same. I like Transmission but it has been hit with issues of being hacked and delivering malware twice I believe so I am hesitant. CotEditor is a solid text editor. I've gone through the system integrity stuff before so not a problem. I think I can manage this! Looking back on it, I was so annoyed by Photos opening all the time (I'm a freelance photographer so I mount SD cards all day every day.) I was certain a photographer more tech savvy than I was similarly pissed and figured out a solution, but a search didn't come up with anything. This was admittedly within the first week it started happening. I've dealt with my half solution ever since, but now I realize instead of seeking a Photos specific solution I could and should have searched for a universal one! I typed this all out because I have the feeling that little realization will serve me well many times in the future and thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks again. Regarding Sublime and Atom: I've always used Sublime in the past and jus recently started trying out Atom and honestly, Atom just feels nicer. Also built in markdown preview is a thing I really miss in Sublime. Handling large files really is another story however. Sublime can handle files up to several GB just fine (albeit loading takes some time of course). Atom wasn't even able to load a 250 MB file. Real downer:( To add something myself: Spectacle - window management tool. Really wondering why this is not a standard feature on macOS. Caffeine - prevent your Mac from locking with the click of a button. Not a huge feature but it does often come in handy for me. • • Helpful resources • • • • • General rules • Follow • Keep it civil and on topic.
